One day, just to clear my head, I drove out towards Lake Travis.

I pulled off along the way at Cypress Creek Park. Just a small park with a public boat ramp accessing the lake.

The problem is Texas is in a drought and the lake is only 35% full.

The boat ramp at the park has been shut down for as long as I can remember. As far as the eye can see, there is no water.

Just homes that once had beautiful lakefront property. Docks and boat houses sitting on dry lakebed. Lonely boats that had not floated in years.

Over to my left, meandering through the bone dry lakebed, I saw a trail of life. A path exploding with plant life.

That trail was a creek. I followed it, just as I followed every creek I could as a kid. With no concern for how wet my shoes were.

The creek lead me to a tunnel underneath a road. Through that tunnel I found a tiny little oasis.
