I created this photograph titled “Secrets” for my “Metaphor” series in 2004.
“Secrets” is a photograph created as a metaphor symbolizing the dark, dirty, unkept and dangerous parts of our souls.
At the time I was living in Indianapolis Indiana and working at our family’s picture framing business. I didn’t have too many friends there so I would go to our warehouse at night and find dark and strange compositions to create. Most were lit with a single tungsten bulb in a reflector dish. The kind you get at the hardware store.
Much of my work during that period was dark. Now that I think of it, much of my work from when I started to this day is dark.
I like to revisit that work from time to time and consider how my style and preferences have changed or remain the same.
