This black and white print features Mansfield Dam through an intimidated lens.
I had to photograph through a fence to get this image. Fencing and barbed wire block entrance to the dam. Multiple security cameras were directed at me.
It is most likely locked down because of security concerns. The terrorists have won.
The dam’s main purpose is control flooding of the Lower Colorado River and creates Lake Travis.
Back in the day it was FM 620, a road that many drove across daily. FM 620 no runs alongside it providing a spectacular view.
The crew I sail with on Lake Travis say that they used to be able to run the sailboat directly at the dam, quickly turn the boat and touch the dam.
No longer. You can only get so close now.
It’s still a beautiful piece of engineering that serves a very important purpose.
